Ghana charts bold path on data, innovation and South-South collaboration ahead of the 2026 Global Data Festival

Ghana brought together senior leaders from government, international institutions, civil society, academia, and the private sector this week to show the country’s commitment to shaping the future of data-driven governance across Africa and beyond. Held in Accra, the event highlighted Ghana’s leadership in data and statistics transformation, and set the stage for deeper South-South collaboration ahead of the 2026 Global Data Festival.

Advancing the use of mobile phone data for statistics in Southern Africa 

Countries across Southern Africa are working to increase the use of mobile phone data (MPD) to produce more accurate and timely official statistics. 

Key players from all 16 Member States in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) gathered for an inspiring four-day workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 19-22 May, 2025, focused on advancing the use of mobile data for statistical purposes and policy.

A call for smarter investments in national data systems

As the financing for development community prepares to gather in Seville for next week’s 4th International Conference on Financing for Development, the Global Partnership’s CEO has made a call to safeguard the data that drives sustainable development.
