About the Collaborative on Administrative Data
Administrative data collected by governments and service providers as part of routine operations represents a critical and cost-effective source for producing timely, disaggregated, and policy-relevant statistics. In Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), countries are increasingly recognizing the potential of administrative data to strengthen national statistical systems and support evidence-based policymaking.
However, significant challenges remain, including issues related to data quality, interoperability, legal and institutional frameworks, and coordination across data-producing entities. Addressing these challenges is essential to fully harness the value of administrative data for official statistics and sustainable development monitoring.
In response, the Collaborative on Administrative Data (CAD) convened by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (GPSDD), and UN Women, brings together national statistical offices and international partners to strengthen country capacity in the use of administrative data. CAD has developed a suite of practical tools and resources to support countries in overcoming common barriers and advancing the use of administrative data.
