On Thursday, March 12, Paraguay's National Institute of Statistics (INE) and the National Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (SENADIS) presented the Technical Guidance Document for the harmonization of variables on disability data. The workshop, and the process to develop the guidance, was supported by the Global Partnership through the Inclusive Data Charter (IDC) initiative.
The event was headed by the national director of the INE, Iván Ojeda; together with Sebastián Valdovinos, general secretary of SENADIS; Fredy Rodríguez, Global Partnership Program Lead for the Latin American region; Gareth Beaumont, representative of the mission of the British Embassy in Paraguay, and Óscar Barrios, general director of Statistical Innovation and Coordination of SISEN.
This is a milestone moment for the Inclusive Data Charter (IDC) Champion in their efforts to strengthen disability data in Paraguay, objective 2 in their IDC action plan. It also reflects the national priorities set out in Paraguay's 2050 National Development Plan on “People and Society,” which promotes social inclusion and equitable access to opportunities and names persons with disabilities as a priority group.
The technical guide, which aims to improve the quality, consistency, and comparability of statistical data on disability, facilitates the integration of administrative records into statistical production processes and optimizes the use of available information for decision-making.
