To kick-start the development of Malawi's Inclusive Data Charter (IDC) Action Plan, the National Planning Commission, and the National Statistical Office of Malawi are convening a three-day stakeholder workshop from 17 to 19 February.
The workshop includes a half-day high-level session aimed at orienting senior stakeholders on the Inclusive Data Charter and its five principles. The discussions will guide the formulation of a practical Action Plan for implementing the IDC principles, with a particular emphasis on improving the inclusion of data on homeless children and child-headed households throughout the data collection, analysis, and utilisation processes.
Background
The National Planning Commission, in collaboration with the National Statistical Office of Malawi, became an IDC Champion in October 2025. This commitment aims to promote the collection of accurate, disaggregated, and reliable data on homeless children and child-headed households to inform inclusive development planning, in line with Malawi’s Vision 2063 of becoming an inclusively wealthy and self-reliant nation.
Following this commitment, they have been working closely with the IDC Secretariat, the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data, Sightsavers, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Office for National Statistics, and other partners to develop an Inclusive Data Action Plan.
