Despite improvements, women still face disproportionate discrimination and violence, and are underrepresented in the political sphere. One in 5 women and girls between the ages of 15 and 49 report experiencing physical or sexual violence by a partner in 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated many of these inequities, including domestic violence, of which cases have increased by 30% in some countries

Inclusive data can help combat gender violence and bridge the gender gap. Accurate gender data on the economic participation, educational opportunities and education status of women can help create better opportunities for women in society.

To achieve gender equality, we need to mobilise not just parliaments but populations, not only civil society but all of society.
