Strengthening local capacities to territorialize the SDGs through inclusive data practices

Overview

On May 7 and 8, 2025, local leaders, data experts, government officials, and civil society organizations will gather in Cartagena and Soplaviento for "Give Me the Data: Citizen Data in Action for the Canal del Dique," a pilot initiative under Colombia’s "Datos en Acción" strategy led by Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadística (DANE). This event is part of the 'Make Inclusive Data the Norm' initiative, a global collaboration led by the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data, in partnership with APC-Colombia. The initiative aims to elevate inclusive and citizen-generated data practices in Colombia, Kenya, and Ghana, ensuring that communities are not only counted but also heard. The event focuses on strengthening the connection between local realities and data ecosystems by equipping communities with the skills and tools to generate, analyze, and use data that reflects their own experiences.

Rooted in the Copenhagen Framework on Citizen Data and Colombia’s National Statistical Plan, this two-day gathering promotes the use of participatory methodologies to drive the territorialization of the SDGs and bring citizen voices into evidence-based decision-making. Through co-creation workshops, field activities with fishing communities, and collaborative learning sessions, the event supports a more inclusive, bottom-up approach to data and development.

Objectives

  • Empower local actors with skills to generate and use citizen data in policymaking.
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange to inform the development of Colombia’s Citizen Data Framework.
  • Promote inclusive data practices that reflect the lived experiences of diverse communities in the Canal del Dique region.
