2024 has been a difficult year in many parts of the world, with conflict and the climate crisis devastating lives from Sudan to Spain. The Global Partnership network continues to believe that better information is critical if humanity is to find ways out of the current moment and chart a better future. Better information comes from data that is inclusive, timely, and well governed, and those are our priorities for change . We’ve been proud to work with partners this year on initiatives that are using better data to improve people’s lives around the world.
For the Global Partnership team, 2024 has been about the power of data through partnerships. The UN/World Bank Power of Data initiative took off in 2024, demonstrating the value of bringing together the convening power of the UN and the financing muscle of the World Bank to achieve change at scale. We’re grateful for the hard work and commitment of our co-lead partners, UNDP, UNFPA, Unicef, UN Statistics Division, and the World Bank. This year also saw the Global Partnership network grow in size and strength, successful engagements on international data issues including data governance and AI for development, and the delivery of expertise, training, and support, working with national partners to strengthen data systems, build data skills, and commit to data-driven decision making.
In this blog we look back at some of the key moments and highlights of 2024, and look ahead to the exciting things to come in 2025.
