Background
A vast amount of data that could be used to help decision-makers target development and aid efforts lies in the hands of the private sector, where concerns ranging from legislative barriers, data security, and user privacy to reputational harm and competitive advantage make accessing this data a challenge for national governments. This is a timely conversation as a push to develop AI tools for development has increased the need for accessible, interoperable training data. This series of events sets out to surface recent, real-world efforts by governments from around the globe, at different levels of development, and their private sector and civil society partners to set up sustained, secure, and ethical data sharing that benefits people.
