On August 13 2024, the Global Partnership, with the University of Florida and the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), host a workshop to bring together key stakeholders from the health and environment sectors, including representatives from public institutions, private companies (including media), and civil society organizations.

This workshop, an offshoot of the Capacity Accelerator Network (CAN) initiative, fosters a collaborative environment for knowledge and best practice sharing, capacity development, and data coordination. By leveraging the expertise and resources of diverse participants, the workshop enhances the collective ability to monitor, prevent, and respond to cholera outbreaks.

Background

Cholera remains a significant public health challenge, particularly in regions with limited access to clean water and sanitation. Effective preparedness and response strategies are crucial to mitigate the impact of cholera outbreaks. In recent years, the global health community has made strides in understanding and combating cholera through improved surveillance, rapid response mechanisms, and innovative technologies. However, the persistent nature of cholera outbreaks underscores the need for continuous vigilance and preparedness. Effective cholera preparedness and response require a multi-sectoral approach, involving coordinated efforts from public health authorities, private sector stakeholders, and civil society organizations, among others.

The University of Florida has created a dashboard that gives governments and key stakeholders the ability to monitor cholera infections and outbreaks as and when they are happening to provide timely interventions to areas affected and support affected populations.
