On 9 April 2026, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) of Cabo Verde convened a technical workshop bringing together government ministries, municipalities, civil society organizations, associations of persons with disabilities, social protection institutions, sports bodies, and development partners to examine how the country can strengthen and integrate its national disability data systems.

Held under the theme "No Data, No Inclusion," the workshop marked a practical milestone in Cabo Verde's journey as an Inclusive Data Charter (IDC) Champion.

The workshop brought together INE, the Ministries of Health, Education, Family, Social Development, and Labour-linked actors; municipalities; civil society and associations of persons with disabilities; social protection institutions; sports organizations; complaint and human rights bodies; and development partners, with support from the IDC Secretariat and the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data.

Participants mapped the landscape of existing disability data across institutions, examined the concepts, tools, and methods currently in use, and identified key gaps, including definitional inconsistencies, underreporting linked to stigma, weak capture of young children and invisible disabilities, and the absence of interoperability between systems.

From the workshop, a clear set of actions was laid out to move Cabo Verde toward a harmonized, integrated, and policy-relevant national disability data system. They are expecting to finalize their IDC Action Plan in the coming weeks.
