On November 25, 2025, a high-level event will officially launch the Strengthening Agricultural Data for Policy (AgriData-SL) initiative under the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture & Food Security.

Sierra Leone is advancing bold reforms to strengthen agriculture, ensure food security, and drive inclusive economic transformation. Anchored in national and continental priorities—such as the Feed Salone Initiative, the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), and the 50x2030 Initiative—these efforts highlight the urgent need not only for accurate, timely, and disaggregated data, but for that data to be actively used to guide policy, investment, and accountability. The Medium-Term National Development Plan (2024–2030) further identifies digital systems and data infrastructure as accelerators for agriculture, nutrition, and rural livelihoods.

This new initiative brings together stakeholders to review and strengthen coordination and alignment across the agricultural data ecosystem. Strengthening data governance, fostering multi-stakeholder coordination, integrating modern technologies into agricultural data systems, and enhancing analytical capacities will improve accountability, enhance crisis response, and attract investment.

Sierra Leone stands at a pivotal moment to modernize its data ecosystem, strengthen data use, reduce food import dependence, and position itself as a regional leader in climate-resilient, evidence-driven agricultural transformation.
