The Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC) is one of the Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs) in the Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
Focusing on human interactions in the environment, SEDAC's mission is to develop and operate applications that support the integration of socioeconomic and earth science data and to serve as an "information gateway" between earth sciences and social sciences.
SEDAC offers a wide range of data relevant to sustainable development, including data and indicators on population, infrastructure, land use, poverty, natural resources, disaster risk, climate impacts and vulnerability, environmental pollution, and international environmental agreements. SEDAC also offers interactive visualization and query tools to support research, applications, and decision making, including innovative mapping clients and mobile applications.
All SEDAC data and services are openly accessible at no charge. SEDAC is operated by CIESIN, the Center for International Earth Science Information Network at Columbia University.
