The changeover in the UK Government is an opportunity to explore what a re-invigorated approach to the UK’s work on sustainable development could look like, building on Labour’s manifesto, after years of decline in terms of international development funding, expertise, relationships and influence.
The event opens with remarks from Anneliese Dodds, Minister of State for Development and Minister of State for Women and Equalities, and is followed by panel discussion with H.E. Antonio Patriota, Sara Pantuliano (ODI), Claire Melamed, (the Global Partnership), and Chukwu-Emeka Chikezie (ICG).
Change has never been more urgent or important. The change this government has promised to deliver is absolutely at the heart of Keir Starmer’s cabinet; to relentlessly pursue a world free from poverty on a liveable planet.
I will focus on getting humanitarian aid to those who need it most, I will tackle unsustainable debt and unlock finance for climate and development. We will boost development leadership because we cannot deliver our mission without building our capability.
-Minister Anneliese Dodds

-Claire Melamed, The Global Partnership
The new UK government must stand alongside social movements working hard to advance rights and equality.
-Sara Pantuliano, ODI
