Local Development Research Institute (LDRI) is an action-oriented think tank whose core objective is to support African Union member states in their efforts to end poverty, end hunger, and address inequality in all its forms.
We contribute to these efforts by providing immediately actionable insights to improve the access, use, and dissemination of data for decision making so everyone can get their job done.
Priorities as a partner of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data
LDRI work is through two areas of work:
1. Our Data for Development Practice (DDP) convenes and/or supports multi-stakeholder communities to catalyze research, facilitate technical assistance, share knowledge and build the capacity of human resource within and outside government to ensure the data needed for decision making for development is available. Through DDP;
- We are convening the Africa Open Data Network (part of the Open Data for Development Network), which is a community of Africans and friends of Africa who believe in the continent's development agenda and the potential for open data to help in achieving it.
- We are co-convening the African node of the Big Data for Development Network, a new community of partners working towards greater availability, use, and human capital for big data for development in Africa.
- We are setting up a long-term data observatory known as the Africa Data Observatory to study the state of data for the indicators used in Africa's sustainable development related programs.
2. Our Food & Nutrition Security Practice (FNSP) studies the extent to which policies designed to address food and nutrition security in Africa are achieving their objectives. FNSP looks at the extent to which a whole-of-government approach is taken in the design and implementation of the policies as well as interdisciplinary linkages to ensure sustainable results are achieved.
