Citizen data is gaining momentum as countries seek to build more inclusive, responsive, and resilient statistical systems. Produced through meaningful engagement of citizens across the data value chain, citizen data can complement official statistics by filling gaps, increasing granularity, and amplifying voices often underrepresented in traditional data sources.

Following the endorsement of the Copenhagen Framework on Citizen Data at the 56th session of the UN Statistical Commission, attention has shifted from principles to implementation. Countries are now experimenting with institutional, methodological, and partnership approaches to integrating citizen data within official statistical systems.

This UNSC side event provides a timely opportunity to reflect on early experiences, emerging impacts, and practical lessons from implementation. Bringing together national statistical offices, civil society, international organizations, and donors, the discussion will explore what is changing in practice and what is needed to sustain and scale progress.

The session will include brief scene-setting remarks, a lightning panel featuring diverse stakeholders, and interactive audience engagement focused on strengthening the future of citizen data integration.
