In many countries around the world, the government does not know the exact number of people who have access to clean water and sanitation or even where they live.  In order to invest in water and sanitation for these communities, we need foundational data.

Every minute of the day, a child dies because of poor sanitation and dirty water, and the diseases that accompany them.  2.5 billion people do not have decent sanitation facilities.  In fact, more people have access to a mobile phone than they do a toilet.

Data can help governments target their resources more effectively through mapping where water pumps are not working or where there are people without access to clean water.

"Although we take it for granted, sanitation is a physical measure that has probably done more to increase human life span than any kind of drug or surgery."
