Data is increasingly driving all areas of contemporary life. It is essential to governments’ and organizations’ responsibilities, decisions, and management. Crucially, the ways data is currently collected and used often leads to those at greatest risk of marginalization being hidden, excluded, or discriminated against.
Data systems and practices need to account for these disparities and our data futures need to be designed for the protection and empowerment of the most vulnerable people in society. Intersectional approaches to data can address these issues, promoting equity across the data value chain and ensuring that data systems are inclusive.
