Session type: Peer exchange

After almost two decades of governments promoting an open data agenda in response to the economic crisis of the late 2000s and early 2010s, it is necessary to reflect on what has been achieved so far and the current situation of open data. In this sense, the main objective of the session is, in addition to exploring the great advances achieved, to show that open data has reached a turning point and that it is necessary to rethink the opening of data beyond the massive publication of information in an open format.

During the session, two paths that we have identified and implemented for the open data agenda in Mexico City will be discussed. However, another objective of the session is to encourage debate among attendees to explore alternative paths to those proposed.

The two paths that we have promoted from Mexico City are, on the one hand, the democratization of open data; That is, more people can use government data and, on the other hand, promote the transactionality of open data; That is, the government agencies or entities themselves use the data that other government agencies publish.
