The MAdagascar Iniatives for Digital Innovation (MAIDI) Association believes in the possibility of open data in Madagascar. Our ambition is that this concept of openness becomes as essential as the need for data collection itself. We ask that open data be an integral part of the day-to-day functioning of national institutions, companies, and NGOs. For that, we aspire to a committed government, with the political will to act towards institutional frameworks and legal standards that favor this vision.
MAIDI was a recipient of an open science mini-grant awarded by the Mozilla Science Lab in April 2018. This grant will be implemented towards "a project that aims to develop and implement a five-month training program for young students and engage them in establishing an Open Data Community in Madagascar. This will be achieved through data training courses, online and field data collection, and the creation of an open data platform, specially designed to publish data collected by non-profit organizations."
Priorities as a partner of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data
MAIDI Association commits to collect data in the field that could play a significant role in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals through smart and horizontal analysis. We will ensure all our data is available in an open data format for public use and re-use.
We also commit to inspire private companies and public institutions to share and join our mission in order to give data a prominent place in the decision-making process for sustainable development in Madagascar.
