Tool 1: Essential Minimum Data Package

This exercise looks at seven key official statistical tools: 1) Census Data, 2) Household Surveys, 3) Agricultural Surveys, 4) Administrative Data, 5) Economic and Fiscal Statistics, 6) Geospatial Data, and 7) Environmental Data. These seven core areas were identified by reviewing 100 potential SDG indicators and by cataloging the type of data required to construct each indicator and the most frequently used methodology. (For more details, please consult the "Data for Development" report). In addition, this work identifies agencies with expertise on each methodology, and associated caveats with each data sources – like the desired level of disaggregation, suggested frequencies of collection, and conformity to international standards.

The Essential Minimum Package can be adapted by each country’s national data team (NSOs and a broad community of national data actors) to a realistic set of goals that the country aims to achieve by 2030, according to its own circumstances (current data availability, resources available, and other enabling environment conditions).
