This is a minsterial meeting of the group on earth observation. Open access to data is the foundation of GEO as you can see in the Draft Ministerial declaration and the annex of GEO accomplishment attached to the Ministerial invitations. GEO is a partnership chartered for 10 years (it was just renewed for an additional 10) with a new mandate to expand its efforts to engage users of earth observations to determine how GEO can facilitate their use. One example of a geo initiative is the Agricultural crop monitoring network GEOGLAM, which was developed to provide governments with information forecasting crop harvests in response to food price volatility several years ago. The G-20 requested this initiative.
