Flowminder is a non-profit organization registered in Stockholm, with most of its staff based in Southampton and Geneva.

WorldPop is a program led by Flowminder's Director, Professor Andy Tatem. It is the main data dissemination platform of Flowminder and includes, in addition to Flowminder and the University of Southampton, researchers from selected universities in the United States and the European Union. WorldPop develops high-resolution spatial data (100x100 m) of global population distributions and characteristics, freely available online.

The mission of Flowminder/WorldPop is to improve public health and welfare in low- and middle-income countries. The data we provide are global public goods. We work with governments, inter-governmental organizations, and NGOs. We collect, aggregate, integrate and analyze anonymous mobile operator data, satellite, and household survey data. We often work with extremely large datasets, composed of billions of data points. Our analyses enable us to map the distributions and characteristics of vulnerable populations in low- and middle-income countries.

We help save lives by providing analyses and decision support to all relevant parties, based on our latest academic advances. Our methods used are designed with full open access and operational application in mind, using transparent, fully documented and peer-reviewed methods to produce easily updatable maps with accompanying metadata and measures of uncertainty.

Priorities as a partner of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data

Flowminder, through its Worldpop Program, commits to improving public health and welfare in low- and middle-income countries by providing global public goods in the form of the collection, aggregation, integration, and analysis of anonymous mobile operator data, satellite, and household survey data.

Our high-resolution tools enable us to map the distributions, characteristics, and movements of vulnerable populations and help save lives by providing analyses and decision support to all relevant parties, based on our latest academic advances.
